Utah’s backcountry is about to get a lot more accessible—and unforgettable. The Western Uinta Hut System is a brand new groundbreaking four-season network of huts that promises adventure enthusiasts year-round access to over 100,000 acres of untouched wilderness in the Western Uinta Mountains.
This isn’t just a recreational milestone; it’s a revolution in how visitors can explore these epic mountains. Spearheaded by Inspired Summit Adventures, a premier backcountry guide service based in Park City, Utah, this trailblazing hut system offers guided and self-guided hut-to-hut experiences, allowing adventurers to navigate 96 miles of developed trails. From backcountry skiing to mountain biking and everything in between, this system welcomes explorers of all stripes.
The initial phase, now open for the 2024 to 2025 winter season, features two yurts: the revamped Castle Peak Yurt and the brand-new Smith and Morehouse Yurt. Each provides a warm and well-equipped refuge for up to 10 adventurers, complete with wood stoves, propane cooktops, and all the essentials for a comfortable wilderness retreat. Whether you’re carving fresh powder lines in winter or paddling serene reservoirs under a summer sky, the huts offer a perfect basecamp for year-round exploration.
Future expansion plans include three more huts connecting breathtaking areas like Slate Creek, Erikson Basin, and Smith and Morehouse.
Shaun Raskin Deutschlander, founder of Inspired Summit Adventures, envisions the hut system as more than just a physical network but a commitment to stewardship and community. “When I started Inspired Summit over a decade ago, I only dreamed that one day I would be in a position to work with the Forest Service and the outdoor community in such a profound way,” Deutschlander shares. “This opportunity to create a lasting legacy for the greater outdoor community is a dream come true.”
For those ready to experience Utah’s first four-season backcountry hut system, bookings for the Castle Peak and Smith and Morehouse Yurts are now live.
